Images for listings: Size and how to change it

Updated over a year ago

The ideal image size depends on which website template you are using and the portals you are sending it to.

For this article, we are focused on images for listings.

Some high-resolution images are too big to load and send to portals, this will result in an error when uploading the image or the images not appearing on the portal.

As a good rule of thumb is a resolution of 2000 x 1500 pixels or higher, in a standard 4:3 ratio. This will ensure your images appear crisp and clear.

REA has their own standards for images and formatting.

How to check image dimensions.

You can easily check the image size and dimensions of your images. Go to where you have your images saved on your computer.

Right-click on the image and click on Properties.

In the pop-up screen, you will see the image size.

How to change the image format:

Click on Details and scroll down to Image, here you will see the image dimensions.

How to change image dimensions

You can resize your image without special image editing software.

For Microsoft users, open your image using the default, Photo program.

Click on the ellipses and Resize

This will allow you to automatically resize the file size, we recommend selecting Best for Viewing. But you can also change the image dimensions under Define custom dimensions.

When selecting your custom dimensions, make sure Maintain aspect ratio is always ticked. This will stop the image from warping.

Click Save resize copy.

Your image will now be ready to upload.

How to change image format

We recommend JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png) as file formats as these are the most widely accepted formats for websites and portals.

If your image is not that format or you would like to change it from PNG to JPEG (or reverse), there are several free and easy to use sites that will convert your image.
