How To Merge Duplicate Contacts

Updated over a year ago

Under what circumstances will I be able to merge a contact?

When merging contacts, either the email address or mobile number needs to be identical to the contact that you want to retain.

As long as either of these is the same as the contact you want to retain, you should then have the option to merge the two contacts together.

In order for the Merge button to appear on a duplicate contact, you will need to ensure that the following setting has been enabled in your office settings:

Preferences >> Office Preferences >> Contacts >> Allow merging of contacts = toggle ON

How do I merge a duplicate contact?

There are two ways to merge contacts, each of which is outlined below.

  1. Through the Merge button on the contact page
If a contact meets the criteria of being 'mergeable' and you have set your office preferences to YES for Allow merging of contacts, you will see a button on the contact details page located on the left panel of the screen that says Merge Options Available.

The contact that has the tick selected will be the contact that is retained.

  2. Through the Merge Duplicate Contacts tool in Settings
To merge contacts through settings, go to Import Tools & Logs then Merge Duplicate Contacts. Search for the contact you want to merge and click the name. The contact ticked is the retaining contact.
